ちっぽけな自分 Myself as a ‘DOT’

‘神はまた言われた、「天の下の水は一つ所に集まり、かわいた地が現れよ」。そのようになった。神はそのかわいた地を陸と名づけ、水の集まった所を海と名づけられた。神は見て、良しとされた。 ‘（創世記 1:9-10）

‘Then God said, “Let the water under the sky be gathered into one place, and let the dry land appear.” And it was so. God called the dry land “earth,” and the gathering of the water he called “seas.” And God saw that it was good. ‘(Genesis 1:9-10)

最初に言っておくが、海をつくったのは私達人間では無い。故に、技術をもってしても、海には太刀打ち出来ない―

そう考えると、一人間としての自分の無力さというか、力の小ささにため息が出る。この世界の主権者は、人間では無い。自然があって、人間なんて二の次ではないだろうか。私たちのちっぽけな力など、ライオンにおもちゃの槍で立ち向かっているようなものだ…

Firstly I’d like to say, that it’s not us the human who created the ocean. Hence, even with our technology, we can’t never conquer the nature…

By thinking this way, I find how powerless I am as a person, and that makes me sigh. It’s important for us to note that we are not the Master of this world. Aren’t we like the second ones next to nature ? We are not as strong as we think- that power is like fighting a lion with a toy spear.

私はとても複雑な気持ちであった。確かに、海は美しいし、波の音は心を落ち着かせてくれるし、人潜りすれば魚と一緒に泳げてしまう。しかし一方で、その荘厳たる姿にショックを受けた。技術がどんどん発展し、あたかも自然が当たり前で自然〈人間的な構図が伺えるが、確かなことは、人間が生まれる前から、海はあったことである。この世の始まりから、海は存在し続けてきた。

I was confused. Well, surely the ocean is beautiful and its sound is so soothing that I can calm myself down. What is more, here in Okinawa, we can swim with fishes as we jump into water ! On the other hand, however, I was shocked to see the solemnity of nature. While as the technology development keeps on accelerating, nature looks to be taken by human for granted, and we now see the structure that goes like: nature〈 human, still, what is sure is the fact Oceans have existed long before human. Since the beginning of this world, oceans have always existed here in the earth.

人間は、本当に小さな世界に生きていると思う。自然の大きさに比べたら、ヒトの生きる場所なんて、デパートにあるレゴの展示に過ぎないのだろう。
我々ヒトは、実はコビトです。であるから（どうせ自分たちの生活は全て「スケスケ」なのであるから）、ケチケチしないで、もっと堂々と生きようではないか。

What a small world we are living in. Compared with the size of nature, the place we live in is like LEGO exhibitions in department store.

You know what, we are dwarfs (If you are not sure, please watch The Snow White). Because of that (and as our lives are always ‘monitored’, knowing and unknowingly), why don’t we live as who we ‘originally’ are. You don’t have to make your own character to please somebody.

そんなことを思った、8月9日でした。
