現在、国立西洋美術館にて開催されている「ルーベンス展―バロックの誕生」に行ってきた。
これは、ペーテル・パウル・ルーベンスという17世紀ヨーロッパを代表する画家を、「あえて」イタリア画家として捉えたものである。来年の1月20日（日）まで開催されている。是非読者の皆様にも行くことをお勧めしたい。
I went to The National Museum of Western Art for Rubens and the Birth of the Baroque.
This exhibition highlights Peter Paul Rubens as an Italian artist, who represents arts in the 17th Century. You are capable to witness one of the greatest pieces of art until 20th January 2019. I highly recommend you not to miss this opportunity.
このルーベンスという人間は、とんでもない男である。普通の画家から、宮廷画家まで上り詰め、後には外交官も努めた。更に、彼は観相学（その人の素質や性質を見抜く理論）のプロでもあるのである。ぶっ飛んでいるな、と私は素直に思った。
This man, Rubens, is an extraordinary person. From a normal painter, becoming a court painter, and later he became a diplomat. Moreover, he was a professional in metoposcopy (the interpretation of facial wrinkles, especially those on the forehead, to determine the character of a person). I found him very talented and unique.
彼の幾つもの名画たる作品を見た感想としては、１に荘厳。２に「強」印象。３に描写が非常に具体的。そして４に目に焼き付く がある。それらは後に説明するとしよう。
Having looked over a range of his masterpiece, there are five keywords popping in my head. Here they are: 1) Solemness. 2) A huge impact. 3) A rather specific depiction. 4) Unforgettable. For these let me explain to you later.

まず、今回なぜルーベンスの画を見ようと思い立ったのか。別に元々ルーベンスを知っている訳では無かった。ただ、パンフレットにあった、聖書の一場面を描いた画をみて感動し、もっとこの様な画をみてみたいなと感じたのだ。
Now, the question is this: why did I come up the idea to see paintings by Rubens ? It’s not that I’ve known his works for a long time. I was very moved by a biblical scene drawn on a flyer (by Rubens). Then I was so excited to see more paintings by Rubens.

絵の世界観がすごい。どの画を見ても、それに吸い込まれてしまう。３Dではないのに、３Dのかと錯覚してしまう程であった。
Ruben’s view of the world is stunning. Whichever pieces of art that I look at, they all absorb me. Although they are not 3D, I misunderstood them as 3D paintings.
ルーベンスの絵画は、彼の生きた時代や、その歴史的背景を知ればもっと面白く感じられた。彼は1577年、ドイツのジーゲンという所で生まれた。両親は、宗教戦争の影響で亡命していたそうだ。カトリックとプロテスタントの対立の間に生まれたのが、ペーテル・パウル・ルーベンスであった。どんな気持ちで、画を描いていたのだろう。
The more I know the age and the background of his times, the more Rubens’s art is interesting. He was born in Siegen, Germany, 1577. His parents were exile in there because of wars that divided Christianity. He was born amid the conflict between Catholics and Protestants. I imagined how he would’ve felt drawing so many great pictures.
それでは、詳細な感想といこうか。
Let me go on to my impression in detail.
まず、荘厳さについて。ルーベンスの画は飲み込まれてしまう迫力があった。しかも多くの画がビッグサイズで、額縁がド派手なのである。まさに、「見せる絵画」とはこのことだなと実感した。
First of all, I’d like to talk about solemness. Pieces of art by Rubens were like if they are waves that swallows people. What is more, many pictures were HUGE, and their frames were very luxurious. And rather flashy. That is what we call ‘The art which MAKES people to see’.
続いて、「強」印象であったことだ。上記の「荘厳さ」とほぼ同じだが、ルーベンスの画はどれも刺激的で、伝えようとしているメッセージが何かしら読み取ることが出来た。
Secondly, Rubens left a strong impression on me. All of his paintings that I saw today was stimulating. I sort of sensed what he was trying to convey his audience.

次に、非常に具体的な描写に対する感動である。まるで写真の様なリアルさ。私自身、美術鑑賞をするのは稀であるのだが、今回に関しては夢中になった。メモ帳の上をペンが滑る。そんな訳で、「満腹」である。
Thirdly, I was amazed by a specific depiction in every piece of art by Rubens. It looked so real as photos. In fact, it’s rare for me to go to museums; this time I forget about time. There was so many to take note of. I was ‘full’ with his incredible masterpieces. Thanks for the meal.
最後に、「目に焼き付く」だ。もはや説明の必要は無いだろう。ルーベンスの画は、一回見たら中々頭から離れない。だから、見る価値があるのだと思う。
Finally, I will always remember his paintings. There’s no need to explain if you by any chance see his pieces. That way Rubens’s art is really worth watching.
美術鑑賞なんてお洒落なことをしたのは何年ぶりだろうか。今回、楽しめたのは、それだけ自分がオッサンになったということか．．．（笑）
When did I last visit a museum. This time I enjoyed a lot- does this mean I got older and became more mature… ? Good for me.
