Learning from Children 子どもたちが教えてくれたコト

 

子どもたちを見ていると、「ボーダレス」の意味がよく分かってきた

Looking at these wonderful children, the word ‘border-less’ made sense

 

 

 

子どもからは多くのことを学ばせられる。そこには、大人たちが忘れてしまったものがあるのでは無いか。少年と大人の間の年代である私は、小さい子を見ながらそんなことを時折考える。

There’s a lot to learn from children. I try to see something in them, that adults have forgotten. As a 18 years old young man, who is in between a boy and an adult, I thought of that looking at little children like my brother Lewis.

 

 

 

今日は、インターン先の知り合い、そしてアフリカ人の友人らと共に、昭和記念公園にてバーベキューをしてきた。そこには、在日アフリカン人の子どもたち、いわゆるアフリカンキッズも来ていた。9歳である私の弟を含めたキッズたちが無邪気に遊ぶ姿を、兄ながら親の目線（微笑ましい）で見てみた。すると、ますます子どもが好きになって来ている自分に気付いた。

I went to have a BBQ with my African friends and people I got to know from my internship. It took place at National Showa Memorial Park. There I had a chance to interact with children of Africans living in Japan- so called African Kids. Including my brother Lewis who is nine years old, I was watching Japanese x African children playing full of excitement. Although I was nothing but a brother to Lewis, I somehow was looking at him from the viewpoint of a parent. As I saw children playing around, I fell in love with their simple-mindedness.

子どもにはたくさんの良い所がある。ピュアな心。信頼から来るであろう親への従順さ。おごりのない謙虚（子どもたちはそれを知らないかも知れないが）な姿。恐れない所。それらの才能を、既に彼らは有している。弟そして彼の遊んでいた友達には、それらが満ちていた。改めて、子どもってポテンシャルが高いのだな、と私は思った。

Children are gifts. They have a pure heart. They are somewhat obedient to parents, in which I believe because of their trust to their parents. They are humble (they might not know that, though). Plus they do not have fear. They are very talented. I saw those talents in all children that I saw playing with my brother. How fantastic are children !

 

 

 

みんなもう仲良し！

心理学上では、一個人には４つの「自己」があると言われている。自分の姿を「味」とするのならば、それを構成するものは①義務自己（〜あるべきだ）②現実自己（〜だ）③可能自己（〜かも知れない）④理想自己（〜でありたい／〜になりたい）である。子どもたちを見ていると、③可能自己と④理想自己が強くあらわれている。つまり、彼らは未来志向であり、ポジティブであるのだ。年をとると、私たちはこの様なことを忘れてくるのかなと思う。

In psychology, it is said that there are four viewpoint of a self:

1. Self of obligation (I should be like〜)
2. Self of reality (I am〜)
3. Self of possibility (I could〜)
4. Self of something ideal (I want to become/be like〜)

Having a look at children, I confirmed 3.&4. are shown clearly in their behavior. To sum up, they look to the future, and their mind is very positive. I thought to myself, that as we get older, we tend to forget what we used to have in our childhood.

現世は、不安の時代とも言えるだろう。VUCAという言葉にも表されている様に、私達の世の中は①Volatility(変動性)②Uncertainty(不確実性)③Complexity(複雑性)④Ambiguity(曖昧性)がある側面を持つ。その中に生きる私たちは、子どもたちの無垢な姿から多くを学べるのでは無いだろうか？

Sometimes this era is described as the age of anxiety. As summarized by the word VUCA, what is presented in front of us has 1. Volatility 2. Uncertainty 3. Complexity 4. Ambiguity. Living in such a period, can’t we learn much from the way children live their lives ?

 

 

 

さわやかな秋の日に、心温まる光景の目撃者となれたことを嬉しく思います。

I’m so happy to become a witness of a hart-warming moment, in such a beautiful day that notifies us the coming of Autumn.
